Biography The Equine Center
Dr.
Marcos Santos received his DVM degree in 2008 at the Federal University of
Vicosa in Minas Gerais, Brazil. His main focus during
veterinary school was to become experienced as much as possible. His
interests lie in surgery, lameness, comprehensive health and wellness,
sports medicine and rehabilitation. In addition, he aspires to be an
excellent surgeon.
His
interest in horses began long before the idea of becoming a veterinarian.
During his life he has been involved in many different aspects of the
equestrian sports, such as rodeo and show jumping. Dr.
Santos trained his 6-year-old Arabian stallion, Dilangel JPI, in show jumping
so well that their career included the state championship.
When they were not winning in the show jumping, they entertained the
crowd at rodeos with such tricks as sitting, bowing and laying down.
They were also undefeated in match races with motorcycles.
When Dr. Santos reached veterinary school, he spent time at the Sao
Paulo Racetrack assisting the veterinarians in various routine procedures,
including endoscopy, as well as lending an educated hand in surgeries.
During
his senior year of veterinary school in the fall of 2007, Dr. Santos spent a
short time at The Equine Center as an extern. He has
returned to us for a 1-year internship to further his hands on experience.
Though he works hard, he does enjoy some time off for line dancing
and spending time in the company of his friends. When you bring your horse
to The Equine Center, look for his cheerful personality, gentle horsemanship
skills and his tenacious appetite for knowledge.
